I needed my seventh continent to complete research for my second book, so I had to travel to the bottom of the world to Antarctica. Adding my seventh continent to my extensive travel list was a childhood dream come true. I selected the Marco Polo of the Orient Lines because it was the largest ship equipped with stabilizers making the rough crossing through Drake’s Passage – known to have waves up to 60 feet. The Marco Polo is constructed with an ice-strengthened hull to withstand adverse Arctic conditions. A helicopter was on board to take care of emergencies and scout our route for ice conditions. Expert naturalists and lecturers were on board to inform us all aspects of the white continent. Also the Marco Polo is a luxury cruise ship with all the shipboard amenities to make the trip even more enjoyable. |
