Machu Picchu, the Inca hidden city, is the highlight of Peru. To reach the remote city 12,000 feet high in the mountains, you have to either hike in or take the switchback train. Our group had an added attraction when our train derailed on the way back to Cuzco, but thankfully, no one was injured.
